Mobile phones to reach 1.28 billion units in 2008, but…
Worldwide sales of mobile phones will hit another high mark at 1.28 billion units in 2008, which is an 11 percent increase from 2007, according to Gartner. Mobile phone sales growth will increasingly rely on emerging markets as mature regions such as Western Europe, Japan and North America reach saturation. Although it appears to be a lucrative market with large volumes for some well established players, hardware based starts-ups are beginning to lose their love affair with the mobile sector due to difficulties (long design in periods, heavy competitions from far-east vendors, consolidation of mobile and chip vendors) in penetrating large brand name cellphone vendors. However, there are other non-hardware opportunities for start-ups....
